     In his 101st year, Charles Townsend Thomas, 'grand old man of Whitford," passed away at his home this morning at 5 o'clock in peaceful sleep. He had been suffering the past few days from asthma, to which he was subjected.
     He spent practically all his life in Whitford, being born on the homestead farm, adjoining his late home, October 27, 1847, a tract now the property of Donald McIlvain.
     During his busy life, Mr. Thomas has been active in affairs of the community. He served as Road Supervisor and as Town Clerk, until the office was abolished. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the State Normal School, no the State Teacher's College; the Chester County Hospital and the Chester County Trust Company.
     Last spring, when the Chester County Medical Society was one hundred years old, Mr. Thomas was presented with a plaque in honor of his advanced age, the presentation being made by Dr. Charles M. Kerwin. Similar plaques were presented every person in Pennsylvania who was 100 years old.
     A birthright member of the Society of Friends, he was constant in his attendance at the Downingtown Meeting.
     During 1946 he was the recipient of unusual honors in congratulations from Queen Elizabeth of England who had forward them through Mr. Thomas' daughter, Mrs. Marian Beeman, of London, England.
     For a number of years he prided himself upon his fine flock of chickens which he bred with care from an original stock, and which were noted for their high production of eggs.
     He was married in 1878 to Isabel Lukens Gibbons, and the couple celebrated the 68th anniversary of their wedding in 1946. Mrs. Thomas passed away on November 3, 1946.
     In the family are four children, four grandchildren. Two brothers, J. Preston Thomas and George Thomas Jr., are decease.
     His four children are John R. Thomas, Whitford; Mrs. Oliver T. Beeman, London, England; Mrs. W. Gilbert Edge, at home; Mrs. William R. Maull, Chillicothe, Ohio.

     Isabel Gibbons, wife of Charles T. Thomas, passed away peacefully yesterday at her home at Whitford, where she had lived since her marriage, 68 years ago. She was a daughter of Abram and Martha Gibbons, of Coatesville, and had celebrated the 92nd anniversary of her birth on Tuesday last.
     All her life she had been interested in helping others, and was connected to various charities, being a charter member of both the Whitford Branch of Needlework Guild and the West Whiteland Branch of the Chester County Hospital Auxiliary.
     She is survived by her husband, a son, three daughters, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

     Reference: from Linn [1883:310]: "George Wilson bought a good deal of wild land, and for a start set out a crop of clover by hand. Although hehad followed the trade of a weaver in Chester county, he devolted himself exclusively in his new sphere to the business of farming. His wife was a Brown, of Chester County. Mr. Wilson brought with him to Centre County five children, named Robert, George, Esther, Orpha, and Jane. Orpha married Job Packer, Jr., Jane married Samuel Downing, and Esther married Robert Elder. Robert Wilson married one of the daughters of Job Packer, Sr., Her Christian names were many in number, as, to with: Julia Elmer Maria springate Penn, so that she signed herself after marriage Julia E. M. S. P. Packer Wilson. She died in 1871, aged seventy years. Robert, wo inhereited the homestead, died in 1856, aged seventy-five years. george married Lydia Packer, and died in Clearfield county. Thomas married Hannah downing and died in 1879 (on the farm adjoining John Wilson's), aged eighty-three years. He had eighter children of whom severn are living.
