http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellefonte,_Alabama: Bellefonte is a ghost town in Jackson County, Alabama, United States,[1] near the site of the Bellefonte Nuclear Generating Station. It is located roughly two miles southeast of Hollywood, Alabama.
Bellefonte was settled in the early nineteenth century and incorporated in 1821, when it had nearly 200 residents. Its name was a subjective description consisting of the French words "belle", meaning "beautiful," and "fonte", meaning "fount." It was the Jackson County seat from 1821 to 1859. During the following decade, a post office, courthouse, and church were constructed. A post office was established in 1830. By 1844, the population had grown to 400. The town suffered severe damage during the Civil War. The post office was closed in 1859, and the entire town was abandoned by the 1920s. All that remains of Bellefonte today are the cemetery, the chimney of the local inn, and piles of scattered bricks.[2][3]

My friend in Hollywood, Jackson county Al ( as you well know is located next to our Marion county tn ) sent this to me and I thought perhaps some of you might be interested in helping out too. If you need more information let me now and I will send you the article in the newspaper.
Betty
"After we moved to Hollywood, Alabama we found out that the original name was Bellefonte and lo and behold I knew that one of my 4th great-grandfathers had died and was buried in the Old Bellefonte Cemetery in Bellefonte, AL. We discovered the cemetery was near our home but you could not get into it because it was so over grown and of course there were snakes. Carl and I couldn't even find a way in when we went looking one day. WELL, in today's paper they had a write up and they have had the inmates working on the old cemetery for the last month and have even made steps so you can climb up the hill to get to the cemetery. There is to be a clean up day on April 2nd and they were asking for volunteers. I called the one girl who knows me and told her Carl and I will be there so please find something that I can do to help that isn't physical. She then had me call this other man and I gave him all my genealogy info and he is even going to see what he can find on him at the Heritage Center for me today. I explained my problem and he said don't worry we will find something for you to do. I am so excited that the Jackson County Historical group has taken this step.
Although they can not find a Bartlett Gentry on the list they have, there are many unmarked stones there. Who knows with God's help I might find a stone that was missed but just to get to go to the cemetery is exciting."

My reference for this information was the book "The Story of Gabriel and Marie Hersent Maupin by Dorothy Maupin Shaffett" and information found on the internet.
I have numbered them I, II, III and IV in order to keep them straight. In those days, I don't think they used the designation. The nicknames were used in order for people to keep them straight because they lived in the same area.
Gabriel and Marie had 5 children who immigrated with them to the United States.
One son was

I hope this information clears up all the confusion. In order to keep the confusion down to a manageable level, I think (if everyone is willing) to change the names as shown. This will help all future researchers to keep their ancestors straight.
I am going to start work on all their children and try to have them all linked together.
If anyone has any additional information I would appreciate your sharing.
I would appreciate a reply to this message so I know where we stand on these changes.
Thanks very much.
My line is from Jesse G. Maupin & Lucy Jones – Daniel "Old Daniel's" son.

Josiah Gentry was listed as David Gentry Jr.'s neighbor in a census on 6 August 1810 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA; GENTRY households in the 1810 federal census for Madison Co., KY: This is a temporary update on my research to identify the GENTRY families listed in the 1810 federal census for Madison Co., KY. I have found twelve listings for Gentry in the 1810 federal census for Madison Co., KY. The listings are in alphabetical order, so the fact that two individuals are listed on consecutive lines does not prove that they were necessarily living close to each other. I have used Ancestry.com as my source for images to find these listings, and it should be noted that on at least three occasions Ancestry mis transcribed the given names of the individuals listed (see #1, #5, and #9, below). This listing may not be complete.
Name (Name as Transcribed)     Page     Line
1     Gentry     Richard Jr (Michael)     208     1
2*     Gentry     David               208     12
3*     Gentry     Brighty               208     13
4     Gentry     John               208     14
5     Gentry     David (Daniel)          208     22
6*     Gentry     Martin               209     25
7     Gentry     Bartlett          209     26
8*     Gentry     John               209     27
9*     Gentry     Martin (Marton)     209     37
10*     Gentry     Josiah               209     41
11     Gentry     Elizabeth          210     22
12*     Gentry     Richard          211     23

I have (probably) identified seven of the twelve listed (marked above with an asterisk "*"). Most of the given names were share by many different GENTRY families over the generations. The seven household that seem to match the records I have found so far are:
1.     #2 - David GENTRY (1761-ca 1813), son of David GENTRY Sr. (1724-1812), father of #3, brother of #10
2.     #3 - Brighty GENTRY (1784-1954), son of David GENTRY Jr. (1761-ca 1813), son of #2
3.     #6 - Martin #1 GENTRY 1789 - unk), son of Martin GENTRY Sr. (1747-1827), brother of #8 and #10
4.     #8 - John #2 GENTRY (1778-1830), son of Martin GENTRY Sr. (1747-1827) , brother of #6 and #10
5.     #9 - Martin #2 GENTRY (1747-1827), son of Nicholas II GENTRY (bef 1697-1779), father of #6, #8 and #10
6.     #10 - Josiah GENTRY (1768-1856), son of Martin GENTRY Sr. (1747-1827) , brother of #6 and #8
7.     #12 - Richard #2 GENTRY 91763-1843), son of David GENTRY Sr. (1724-1812), brother of #2

Listing #11, Elizabeth GENTRY, is probably the widow of a GENTRY husband, but I haven't found a suitable spouse of that name and age (c. 1766-84).

The remainder will require further research. I hope to identify more of the families as my research continues.9

I have no identified who the parents of "my granddaughters Jane Timberlake and Ann Jenkins" were. GA Vaut
Gentry [1909:33-34]:
Will of Nicholas Gentry (2)
In the name of God amen, I, Nicholas Gentry of Albemarle Co., Va., do make this my last will and testament. Imprimis. My desire is that my well beloved wife Jane Gentry, remain in the possession and engagement of my whole estate, both real and personal, during her life, and after decease, I give and bequeath to my son, Martin, a negro girl, Milly, and likewise a negro boy, Charles, and the children of said Milly with all of her future children, I bequeath to him and his heirs and assigns forever, provided my son Martin Gentry, his heirs, executors or administrators, pay to my son Nathan Gentry, the sum of fifteen pounds current money of Virginia, to him, his heirs and assigns, to be paid yearly, five pounds, until paid. I likewise give to my son Martin Gentry my copper still, and my gun, to him, his heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath to my grandson Bartlett Gentry, son of Martin Gentry, one negro boy named Patrick, and to his sister Patty, my granddaughter, I give one negro girle named Minnie, to them and their heirs and assigns forever. But if either of my grand children, Bartlett or Pattie, die without lawful issue, the said negroes Patrick and Minnie descend to my son Martin Gentry, his heirs and assigns forever.
And further, my will and desire is that my sons Moses, David and Nicholas Gentry and my daughter Mary have twenty shillings apiece and no more, to be paid out of my estate, and that they, nor any of them shall enjoy any more, unless the laws of this country, should entitle them to a greater sum; in that case my desire is that they shall not possess, nor enjoy any more than the law entitles disinherited children to.
Further, my desire is that after my will desired shall be executed, the remaining part of my estate, shall be equally divided between my sons Robert, Benajah, Nathan, Martin, and my daughter Elizabeth Haggard and my granddaughters Jane Timberlake and Ann Jenkins; which two last Timberlake and Jenkins, shall have half as much as my son Robert, shall have no more, and Ann Jenkins shall have, as Jane Timberlake and no more.
My desire is that my estate appraised, and lastly I appoint my beloved Jane Gentry and my sons David, and Martin Gentry, as executors, of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby revoke all former wills made by me, and declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 20th day of Febry., in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy-seven.

      ;
Per Gentry [1909:77]: "Born Dec. 20, 1789; married Delphia Heme. After rearing six children, he and his wife separated, and he married again in Indiana and had two sons. His first wife and her children came to Pike Co., Mo.
Children by first wife:
1. Woodson H., born in Madison Co., Ky; came to Missouri; married and lived on a farm near Rocheport, Mo. He had one child : a. Braxton C. Gentry, deceased, who inherited and lived on his father's old place for many years. He left several daughters.
2. Thompson, lived in Louisiana, Mo., for many years, and was engaged in the furniture business. He had a son named Curtis Gentry.
3. William, lived on a farm in Cooper Co., Mo., and had a large family of children.
4. Hayden (98).
5. Curtis, lived near Sturgeon, Boone Co.. Mo., where he left a family of children.
6. Paulina, married Rev. Newman, a Methodist minister; they lived some time at Sedalia, Mo. She left two children:
     a. Mary N. Turner;
     b. George S. Newman.4

Martin Gentry Jr. was listed as David Gentry Jr.'s neighbor in a census on 6 August 1810 at Madison Co., Kentucky, USA; GENTRY households in the 1810 federal census for Madison Co., KY: This is a temporary update on my research to identify the GENTRY families listed in the 1810 federal census for Madison Co., KY. I have found twelve listings for Gentry in the 1810 federal census for Madison Co., KY. The listings are in alphabetical order, so the fact that two individuals are listed on consecutive lines does not prove that they were necessarily living close to each other. I have used Ancestry.com as my source for images to find these listings, and it should be noted that on at least three occasions Ancestry mis transcribed the given names of the individuals listed (see #1, #5, and #9, below). This listing may not be complete.
Name (Name as Transcribed)     Page     Line
1     Gentry     Richard Jr (Michael)     208     1
2*     Gentry     David               208     12
3*     Gentry     Brighty               208     13
4     Gentry     John               208     14
5     Gentry     David (Daniel)          208     22
6*     Gentry     Martin               209     25
7     Gentry     Bartlett          209     26

11     Gentry     Elizabeth          210     22
12*     Gentry     Richard          211     23

I have (probably) identified seven of the twelve listed (marked above with an asterisk "*"). Most of the given names were share by many different GENTRY families over the generations. The seven household that seem to match the records I have found so far are:
1.     #2 - David GENTRY (1761-ca 1813), son of David GENTRY Sr. (1724-1812), father of #3, brother of #10
2.     #3 - Brighty GENTRY (1784-1954), son of David GENTRY Jr. (1761-ca 1813), son of #2
