BIRTH 12 Jul 1853, Illinois, USA
DEATH 29 Dec 1944 (aged 91), Springfield, Greene County, Missouri, USA
She was apparently raised and married as Maria Clementine Coleman. She appears as a child in the household of James Anderson Coleman, who died Marion Co., IL 1877, in the 1860 census. However Coleman's wife Sarah Denton died in 1850; there is no record of his remarriage; and a supposed sister of Maria was born about four months before her. So it seems likely that these children were adopted by James Coleman, with Rowe perhaps being Maria's original surname. Bio by: NL Nuttall

; N.B.: I am resonably confident in my work on my line of the RAWLINGS family from Aaron (1667-1741), going forward in time (though much work remains to be done to flesh that out). At this point, I am relying principally on the work of "ramona22943" (as posted on her Ancestry Rawlings Family Tree) to build out Aaron's pedigree. I will add evidence to confirm (or alter) ramona22943's hypoothesized ancestry, as I find an evaluate it. The first step is to add in the ancestors she shows in his pedigree at https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/48885697/family?cfpid=20428285941 .
Some of "ramona22943"'s outline is confirmed already by other sources (e.g., Genealogics and a citation in Appletons' Cyclopedia of American Biography). Appleton's states of Aaron's grandson, Col. Moses Rawling (1745-1809): "His ancestor, Henry, was among the first settlers of Maryland, having emigrated to the colony in 1638. In 1650, [Henry's] son, Anthony, was a member of Gov. Calvert's colonial council." That confirms a few generations, if Appleton's can be trusted.

Anthony Rawlings and His Descendants
The history of the Rawlings family is probably one of the most confusing genealogical tangles in Maryland. Unfortunately, some of the information furnished by Rawlings descendants and information which has been published by Rawlings descendants and information which has been published is incorrect. It seems that the earlier writers based their conclusions on very little evidence and did not go far enough in their research. It appears to me that many of the current researchers of the Rawlings family have copied these early writings and accepted the information when there was little documentation to support it. Also, I believe that because of the jumbled Rawlings history, the professional genealogists avoided writing about this particular family.
I believe that most people would agree that Anthony Rawlings (the earliest spelling of the name was Rawlins) was the first person with this name to settle in Maryland. Some writers have concluded that Anthony was the direct ancestor of other early Rawlings such as Aaron, Daniel and Richard Rawlings, however, the records don't support this conclusion. Also, it has been said that there is a lost generation after Anthony and his children, but again, the records do not support this.
Attached is a chronological list of records located in the Maryland Hall of Records in Annapolis, the Dorchester County Public Library in Cambridge, and the Peabody and Maryland Historical Society libraries in Baltimore. The list covers events over a period of 150 years. Included at the end of the list is my interpretation of the records. Any contradictions, along with proper documentation, or differences in interpretation are welcome.

Henry Rawlings
It has been said that Henry Rawlings was the father of Anthony and the first Rawlings to settle in Maryland. Some have said that Henry was a large land owner in Anne Arundel County having settled there in 1635. I was not able to locate any records indicating that Henry ever lived in Maryland. Also, Anne Arundel County was not settled until 1649-1650. There was a Henry Rawlings who left London for Barbados on November 20, 1635, however, the records are silent as to Henry coming to Maryland.
Anthony Rawlings
Anthony was the first Rawlings to come to Maryland appearing in the records as early as 1638. In 1648, he applied for land for transporting himself, his wife and one child to Maryland in 1645. This 1645 date could be an error on the record. Anthony was a servant to Justinian Snow who died in 1638 returning to Maryland so Anthony must have been in Maryland by at least then. Anthony probably came to America with Snow in 1636 or 1637. Another possibility and most likely is that Anthony returned to England about 1643, reentered Maryland in 1645, paying for his own transportation and that of his wife and child. Anthony Rawlings died in 1651 leaving four children, John, Anthony, Anne and Margaret. Shortly after Anthony died, his widow married Michael Baisey.
John Rawlings
Living with Anthony in 1642 was John Rawlings, an adult tax payer. He was probably Anthony's brother. Since no additional records were found on this person, he may have died young or could have returned to England and unlike Anthony, stayed there. The possibility exists that John Rawlings was the father of Aaron, Daniel or Richard, the next generation of early Rawlings.
John Rawlings (of Anthony)
John Rawlings, oldest son of Anthony was born c1640 in Maryland and died in Dorchester County c1680. John's date of death is supported by the Chancery Court record showing John sold land to John Anderson about 1680 and died before conveyance and also the lack of land transactions after 1680. John's wife was Philadelphia Start, a widow with a young daughter also named Philadelphia. John transported both to Maryland from England in 1662. About 1668, John sold all his lands in Calvert County and moved to Dorchester County taking with him his wife, children, mother and step-father. The Dorchester County land records show that John and Philadelphia were involved in many land transactions. Also, John was apparently an excellent boatwright since he contracted with people in the area to build boats. John Rawlings had at least four children, John, Sarah, Margaret and Anthony.
Anne Rawlings (dau. of Anthony)
No records were found on her marriage, death etc. Some have speculated that Anne was married to Philip Pitt but the evidence seems to indicate that Anne Fisher, step-daughter of John Rawlings was married to Pitt.
Margaret Rawlings (dau. of Anthony)
No records found on her marriage, death etc.
Anthony Rawlings (of Anthony)
Anthony Rawlings, Jr., second son of Anthony, Sr. was very young when his father died in 1651, probably no more than 5 years old. It has been claimed by some that Anthony, was the father of Aaron, Daniel and Richard Rawlings. Anthony, was about 20 years old when Aaron was born in 1667, so based on their ages at the time the possibility exists, however, Aaron's parentage has until now never been proven. Also Daniel's parents have not been documented. Anthony, could not have been the father of Richard since these two Rawlings were about the same age. It is interesting that Anthony, Sr. in 1651 left 200 acres each to his two sons, John and Anthony, Jr., however, all 400 acres were resurveyed and sold by John with no mention of Anthony, It appears that Anthony, died young or chose to live in England. The records seem to indicate that the early Rawlings may have traveled back and forth to England perhaps to seek a wife or to learn a trade. Some have said that Anthony, was the Rawlings who died in Dorchester County in 1728. This is obviously incorrect since Dorchester Anthony in his will gave a colt to his father proving this impossible since the first Anthony died in 1651.
Philadelphia Start (step-daughter of John)
Philadelphia Start was transported to Maryland by John Rawlings along with her mother and two other people. Philadelphia married Andrew Gray, (some have said that it was her mother who married Gray after John Rawlings died). Philadelphia Start Gray had a least one child, Jacob. Jacob's wife was Isabell and they had a daughter Philadelphia, the third generation with that name. Philadelphia Gray married Edward Williams.
John Rawlings (of John)
John Rawlings was born c1673 (attained age 21 in 1694), probably in Dorchester County and died there in 1709. His wife was Elizabeth Winsmore Fisher, widow of Alexander Fisher and mother of 5 children. John Rawlings apparently had no natural children.
Sarah Rawlings (dau. of John)
Sarah Rawlings married Obadiah King and had two children, John born c1690 and Obadiah who died in 1735. The records are very clear that John and Obadiah King were the grandchildren of Philadelphia Rawlings.
Margaret Rawlings (dau. of John)
Margaret Rawlings married Charles Thompson (c1675-1756) and had a least one child, Margaret. Charles Thompson's age is a good indicator of the approximate ages of the children of John and Philadelphia Rawlings.
Anthony Rawlings, Sr. (of John)
Anthony Rawlings, Sr. married Katherine and had at least 4 children, John, Anthony, Jr., Mary and Margaret. Anthony, Sr. moved to Kent County, Delaware about 1730 and apparently died there.
Anthony Rawlings, (of Anthony, Sr.)
Anthony Rawlings, died in 1728 in Dorchester County, a young single man with no children. He definitely was not the son of the Anthony Rawlings who died in 1651 as some have said. Actually he was the great-grandson of the first Anthony.
Mary Rawlings (dau. of Anthony, Sr.)
Some have said that Mary Rawlings daughter of Anthony, Sr. was married to a man named Daughty, however, the records don't prove this. The Daughty cousins mentioned in the will of Anthony Rawlings, could have been cousins on his mother's side.
Margaret Rawlings (dau. of Anthony, Sr.)
Margaret Rawlings, daughter of Anthony, Sr. married James Hailes and had one son, James. James Hailes, married Anne and had three sons, James, Weightman and Ezekiel.
Conclusion
About 1636 or 1637, Anthony Rawlings ( -1651) and John Rawlings settled in St. Mary's County, Maryland Anthony and John were probably brothers. The evidence indicates that Anthony's descendants took up lands in Calvert County and later removed to Dorchester County on the Eastern shore. John Rawlings could have died young, returned to England or just lived a quiet life in Maryland.
According to the records, the next generation of Rawlings, Aaron and Richard of Anne Arundel County and Daniel of Calvert County whose lineages can be traced up to the present time, were not direct descendants of Anthony. It seems possible that their ancestor was John Rawlings.

Anthony Rawlings that was one of the appraisers of the estate of Thomas Marshall d.1704 Westmoreland might have been the son of John Rawlings the brother of Anthony Rawlings d.1652 in Maryland. There are no land records in VA as he was living on the Estate of John Washington.(see will of John Washington). Anthony Rawlings son Samuel had a son Benjamin who I believe to be the same as Benjamin Rollins who the witnessed the will of John Marshall d.1752 Westmoreland.

Name: Henry RAWLINGS
Sex: M
Birth: ABT. 1589 in Scotland
Death: 1653 in VA.
Note:
Notes on Henry recieved from Billie Rawlings:
The original Rawlings Scottish Gentleman believed to have moved to the Colonies in 1635 with his wife, unknown, and two sons, John and Anthony. After Anthony's death in 1652, he moved to VA. He died shortly thereafter, in 1652 or 1653.
Although we do not have exact dates, a Rawlings family history is available that dates back to 1635, when it is believed that Henry emigrated to the United States with his wife and his two sons. This was compiled by Charley Rawlings.
Information provided by other Rawlings researchers seems to indicate that Henry never came to the Colonies, but instead immigrated to Barbados. There is also some indication that a Henry Rawlings emmigrated to Canada. Our research continues!

Our research continues!

; This person is purely hypothetical at this stage, as a daughter of John MacCubbin, Sr. Edward Rumney did marry a woman name Elinor, but I have found no evidence that she was a a MacCubbin. She is listed in an Ancestry family tree, but without any source cited. The fact that John MacCubbin, Sr., m2 an Elinor (Carroll???), seems to lead some to assume reasonably that he must have had a dau. whom he named Elinor. But I can't find any reason why some assume that the Elinor that Edward Rumney married was this supposed Elinor MacCubbin. GA Vaut.1,3 GAV-8. Edward (III) Rumney (Jr.) was born before 1694 at Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, USA; Ancestry.com - Maryland, U.S., Births and Christenings Index, 1662-1911
Source Information: Ancestry.com. Maryland, U.S., Births and Christenings Index, 1662-1911 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2011.
Original data: "Maryland Births and Christenings, 1600–1995." Index. FamilySearch, Salt Lake City, Utah, 2009, 2010. Index entries derived from digital copies of original and compiled records.2 He was christened in 1694 at St. Anne's Parish, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, USA; There are two records for the christening of children named Edward RUMNEY: one in 1694 (Record #1) and a second in 1708 (Record #2); both in Saint Anne's Parish, Anne Arundel Co., MD. Both records show the parents to have been Edward and Elinor RUMNEY. It may be that Edward (Sr.) had a son, Edward (Jr.) born c1694, but who soon died and then named a second son (born c1708) also Edward. Or it may be that the same Edward (Jr.) was christened twice (less like). For now, I have chosen to believe that the 1694 date more likely fits with the births of Edward Jr.'s siblings. GA Vaut
