     Ninian Ross, before 15 November 1515, married Lady Janet Stewart, daughter of Matthew Stewart, 11th Earl of Lennox, and Elizabeth Hamilton. Their son Robert, Master of Ross, would die before him leaving one daughter. Before 12 December 1523, Ninian Ross contracted his second marriage to Elizabeth Ruthven, widow of William Hay, 5th Earl of Erroll, and daughter of William Ruthven, 1st Lord Ruthven, and Christian Forbes. Their son James would succeed him as Lord Ross of Halkhead. Elizabeth Ruthven died before 9 December 1529.
     On 9 December 1529 Ninian Ross contracted to marry Lady Elizabeth Stewart, widow of John Stewart, 12th Earl of Lennox, and daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl, and Lady Eleanor Sinclair. His fourth wife Janet Montgomery would survive him.
     From 1515 to 1540, he sat frequently as a Lord of Parliament. In 1515 he was one of the nobles who despatched ambassadors to France to arrange for Scotland to be included in the pacification with England. On 25 May 1524, he protested against the departure of John Stewart, 2nd Duke of Albany, for France. In June 1526 he accompanied King James V to the southern parts of Scotland.
     On 30 June 1534, he ratified a treaty with England. On 10 December 1540, he witnessed the ratification of the forfeiture of John Lyon, Lord Glamis. He was a staunch adherent of Cardinal Beaton's party and an opponent of Arran.
