; per Leo van de Pas: "As he was raised at the Court of his uncle Georg, Duke of Saxony, he was exposed to both Roman Catholic and Lutheran influences. Although Georg was hostile to Protestantism, when he died in 1539 he was succeeded by his brother Heinrich, Moritz's father, who favoured Protestantism, especially Lutheranism. Heinrich arranged Moritz's marriage to the daughter of the prominent Lutheran, Philipp, Landgraf of Hessen. When Heinrich died three years later, it was Moritz who became Duke of Saxony at the age of twenty.

At first he continued his father's policy favouring the Protestants; yet, although he signed the Schmalkald Articles, he refused to join in the League of Schmalkalden. However, in 1546, at the Diet of Regensburg, Granvelle, the Emperor's counsellor, convinced Moritz to enter into a neutrality agreement with Emperor Charles V. Then Moritz was offered the lands and titles of electoral Saxony if he could overthrow the Lutheran elector, Johann Friedrich. Moritz accepted the Emperor's offer and took his army to the Saxony electorate. Elector Johann Friedrich had to withdraw his army from the Schmalkaldic League to defend his own lands and, by this withdrawal, weakened the Protestant army. As a result, the Protestants were defeated at the battle of Mühlberg on 24 April 1547 and both Elector Johann Friedrich and Moritz's father-in-law, Philipp, Landgraf of Hessen, were imprisoned. Moritz took control of electoral Saxony and,at the Diet of Augsburg in 1548, was confirmed as Elector of Saxony.

Although he was now in control of Albertine and Ernestine Saxony,he started to move away from Emperor Charles V. Despite his repeated requests, the Emperor would not release Moritz's father-in-law; he also found it difficult to be accepted by the people of electoral Saxony as they regarded him a traitor to the Protestant cause. To placate the Protestants, he restored the University of Wittenberg and instructed Philipp Melanchton to employ as many of the former faculty as possible. This was done in defiance of the Emperor who repeatedly demanded the arrest of Melanchton.

On 15 May 1548 Emperor Charles V imposed the Augsburg Interim which demanded of Protestants to return to the Catholic Church. If Moritz signed he would lose the support of his subjects and the other Protestant princes; but if he refused he could expect the fury of the Emperor. To gain more time, in December 1548, Moritz called a meeting of Protestant princes and on 17 December 1548 they had redrafted the Augsburg Interim, rewording it in ambiguous langugage. After that,Melanchton amended the document even further and this version was published in Leipzig in 1549.

Emperor Charles V was pacified and in 1550 entrusted the siege of the Protestant city of Magdeburg to Moritz, who threw in his lot with the Protestants and, after extremely favourable terms, took the city for himself. Defiantly, Moritz gathered the Protestant princes around him. In 1552, at the head of a Protestant army, Moritz marched on Innsbruck where the Emperor was. Having surprised the imperial forces, the Emperor had to flee the city. With the Turks threatening in the East, the Emperor could not afford a war with the Protestants and, in August 1552, agreed at the Treaty of Passau to grant religious liberty to the Protestants until the next imperial Diet. At the same time Moritz gained the freedom of Philipp, Landgraf of Hessen.

Moritz, as the defender of Protestantism, went to war against Markgraf Albrecht Alcibiades of Brandenburg who refused to honor the Treaty of Passau. On 9 July 1553, Moritz went into battle at Sievershausen and crushingly defeated the Markgraf. However, Moritz was seriously wounded in the battle and died of his wounds two days later."2

; Per Med Lands:
"ARNOLD, son of --- & his wife [Haziga] [von Scheyern] (-1104). The sources are contradictory regarding Arnold's parentage. The Chronicon Schirense names "Otto, Pernhardus et Ekkehardus", sons of Graf Otto [I], as "patrueles" of Arnold's sons "comites Chuonradus et Otto de Dachawe"[557], which indicates that Arnold was paternal uncle of the three brothers assuming that the word patruelis is used in its strict sense. However, Wegener cites sources dated [1080] and [1095] which name "nobiles viri Arnolt et Otto de Sciren" and "Otto et frater eius Arnolt de Skiren" respectively[558]. It is unlikely that Arnold was the son of Graf Otto [I] and his wife Haziga as the Chronicon Schirense names (in order) "Ottonem, Pernhardum et Ekkardum comites" as their three sons[559] and there seems little reason why another adult son should have been omitted. Europäische Stammtafeln[560] shows Arnold as the son of Graf Otto [I] by a supposed first marriage with a sister of Arnold Graf von Diessen. No primary source has been identified which supports this hypothesis. It is not impossible that Arnold was born from an earlier marriage of Otto [I], although the common use of the name Arnold appears to be the only indication that such a first wife may have been related to the family of the Grafen von Diessen. Another factor suggests that a first marriage of Graf Otto [I] into the Diessen family is unlikely: as noted below, Graf Otto's necrology entry appears to place him in a subordinate position to his wife, which suggests that he was of inferior importance in the ranks of the local nobility. It is unlikely that Otto would have been considered inferior if he had been the widower of the sister of Arnold Graf von Diessen, whose own importance was probably greater than that of the heiress of the Scheyern estates. A further possibility is that Arnold was uterine brother of Otto, Bernhard and Ekkehard, son of Haziga by an earlier marriage, which seems to be the option which most closely explains the sources, providing that a broader interpretation of patruelis can be assumed. Graf von Dachau.

The Chronicon Schirense names "comitisse Beatrix" as mother of "comites Chuonradus et Otto de Dachawe"[561]. According to Wegener, her father was Graf an der oberen Ampar, which later became the Grafschaft Dachau so she was the heiress who passed this property to her husband[562]. The necrology of Undensdorf records the death "III Id Feb" of "Beatrix coma"[563]."

Beatrix von Reipertshofen married Arnold von Scheyern Graf von Dachau, son of Otto I (?) von Wittelsbach, Graf an der Paar, Graf von Scheyern and NN von Andechs.1,2
