Joseph Miller began military service between 1780 and 1782 at Chester Co., Pennsylvania, USA, From DAR Application #42533: "Joseph Miller was born near Kennett in Chester County in the Province of Pennsylvania. His ancestors came to this country in the first Quaker migrations to Maryland and delaware and settled in that portion of Chester county afterwards known as East Caln Township nearly half a century prior to the coming oc William Penn.
     "Joseph Miller enlisted as a private in the Third Company, called the new Garden Company, under Captain william Whiteside, in the third Battallion commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel John Hannum in 1780. He re-enlisted the following year and during 1782 he is marked as "in active service".
     "Joseph Miller's name also appears on the alphabetical List of revolutionary Soldiers in the Second Series of the Archives of Pennsylvania."
