His present descendant in the male line is The Menzies of Menzies, Ch of Clan Menzies (see that family)."

     per van de Pas: "John Steuart was an illegitimate son of Robert II, King of Scots, by Mariota Cardney, daughter of John Cardney and sister of Robert Cardney, Bishop of Dunkeld 1396-1436. In 1394 John was mentioned as being educated at the University of Paris. On 12 February 1399 he received the lands of Cardney from his half-brother Robert III, king of Scots. John was knighted on 21 May 1424. He died in 1466."1,3 Sir John Stewart 1st of Cardney was also known as Sir John Steuart 1st of Cardney.3
