In 1394 John was mentioned as being educated at the University of Paris. On 12 February 1399 he received the lands of Cardney from his half-brother Robert III, king of Scots.      Jacob Houston Susong died at his home near Newport, November 24th, Thanksgiving Day, 1927, at 3:45P.M., after an illness of only four days.
     He was the son of Andrew Susong and Susan Ball Susong, who were pioneers of Greene County, Tennessee from Lee County, Virginia. He is the last of a family of six brothers and three sisters, having lived to the ripe age of 90 years and 14 days.
     Mr. Susong was married March 14, 1872, to Louise Elizabeth Stokely, who died December 16th, 1885. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.R. Seehorn of Newport and Mrs. U.S. Andes of Knoxville.
     Mr. Susong was held in highest esteem by the whole community, being a man of sterling character, a successful business man and one whose pratical charity extended to the porr and unfortunate.
     Mr. Susong was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church and the oldest member of the Newport Lodge No. 234 of Free and Accepted Masons.
     The funeral services will be conducted at the home Saturday, Nov. 26th, at two o'clock by Revs. A.L. Crawley, D.C. Amick and L.S. Reynolds. Interment will be in the family cemetery. A Masonic burial will follow the committal service.

Sir Walter Halyburton younger of Dirleton was born circa 1380.² He married Marjorie Douglas, daughter of Sir Archibald "The Grim" Douglas 3rd Earl of Douglas, in 1403.^1,2

; per van de Pas: "In 1403 he married the Dowager Duchess of Rothesay, who bore children before dying in 1421. He was knighted on 21 May 1423 and in 1424 went to England as one of the hostages for King James I. In 1430 he became one of the Wardens of the Marches, then on 5 July 1438 was appointed Treasurer of Scotland which he remained until he died in 1447.²
