Last Rites Today, Methodist Church, For Mrs. Swisher
Last rites for Mrs. Ella L. Swisher, 74, a longtime resident of Holyoke, will be held at 3:00 o'clock this afternoon at the Holyoke Methodist Church, with Mr. Ellsworth Reile of Denver in charge. Interment will be in Holyoke Memorial Park.
Mrs. Swisher passed away at 3:30 o'clock Monday morning at the Phillips County Hospital, where she had been a patient about three weeks. She had been in failing health for some time. Arrangements for the funeral are in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home.
A daughter of William O. and Orella Martin, Mrs. Swisher was born October 21, 1879, at Lodi, Wisconsin. In 1886, when she was 7 years old, she moved with her parents to Chase County, Nebraska, where she grew to womanhood. The family remained in Chase County for 24 years before moving to Holyoke in 1910. The family knew the deprivations and hardships of pioneer life and Mrs. Swisher saw the development of this area from sod house days until the present.
She was united in marriage to E.P. Huffman on September 1, 1902 at Imperial. To this union was born one daughter, Ina. Mr. Huffman and the daughter both preceded Mrs. Swisher in death.
On December 25, 1911, the deceased was married to Richard H. Swisher at Holyoke. Four children were born to this union, Mildred, Maudie, Mable and Melvin. Mrs. Swisher was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Mildred and Mable; her parents; two brothers, Worthing and Ernest Martin; and one sister, Lennie.
Surviving Mrs. Swisher are one daughter, Mrs. Harold Walgren, Holyoke; one son, Melvin Swisher, Long Beach, California; seven grandchildren, Charles Hall, Kansas City, Missouri, Donald Karraker, Amherst, Everett, Mildred and Leonard Walgren, Holyoke, and Pamela and Patty Swisher, Long Beach; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emory E. Martin, Burbank, California, and Charles Martin, Imperial; one sister, Mrs. Melvin Spriggs, Anaheim, California, and many other relatives.
Mrs. Swisher affiliated with the Methodist church when she was a young woman, but placed her membership in the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1952.

FINAL RITES HELD FOR R.H. SWISHER SUNDAY
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church of Holyoke Sunday for Richard Horatio Swisher. Rev. Clare J. Hayes officiated and Mrs. C.R. Smythe and Mrs. Charles Brown sang Asleep in Jesus, nearer My god to Thee and The Old Rugged Cross, accompanied at the piano by Miss Betty Gleason. Pallbearers were C.E.      Richard Horatio Swisher, the son of Jerome and Sarah Byron Swisher, was born in Doniphan County, Kansas, September 15, 1875 and departed this life July 20, 1944 at his home in Holyoke, Colorado.
He moved to La Crosse, Kansas when five years of age and lived in that place until he grew to manhood.
As a young man he took up his residence in Guthrie, Oklahoma where he served as Superintendent of the Chilocco Indian School.
He came to Holyoke in 1909 and has made this community his home since that time. The call to things higher reached him and April 20, 1924, he became a member of the First Methodist Church of Holyoke, of which body he was a member at the time of his passing. He was united in marriage to Ella L. Huffman, December 25, 1911 and to this union were born four children, two of whom survive.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother, two daughters, Mable, who passed away February 8, 1924 and Mildred who passed away December 16, 1942; as well as one half sister, Mrs Frank Davis of Seattle, Washington who passed away some years ago.
Left to mourn the passing of this loved one, besides his devoted wife, are two children, Mrs. Maudie Walgren of Holyoke and Melvin Swisher of Long Beach, California. Also three brothers, Frank Swisher and Samuel J. Swisher of Grants Pass, Oregon and Albert G. Swisher of Seminole, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Mrs. John Wright of Liberal, Kansas and Mrs. C.L. Hall of Wichita, Kansas. Besides these are two half brothers and one half sister, A.V. Hill of Niles, California, John H. Hill of Hayward, California and Mrs. G.A. King of Seattle, Washington.
