"The Adrian Journal" Adrian, Missouri, May 16, 1889: "Died at the residence of Henry Moudy, in this city on Sunday morning, May 12, 1889, John Moudy, aged 65 years.Editorial from the Journal :1We have laid our beloved father and husband in his final resting place. He is free from aches and pains, free from turbulent storms that frequent the abode of mortal beings. While it is hard to give him up and it is to us a great bereavement, yet we are not like those who have no hope. His life was such as to justify us in the belief that his spirit, which is freed from his mortal being, has leaped safely over the cold Jordan of death, and is lairing [resting or laying] in the soft balmy breezes of a fairer and purer region than this. Father died of cancer of the lip, which was slow in action, inflicting upon him constant and severe pain. Yet in his long suffering, he murmured not; but with Christian fortitude he bore it all, ever keeping his eyes on Jesus as the Great Physician, in whom he trusted and to whom he looked for deliverance. He was born in Shelby County Kentucky on February 16, 1824, and moved to Indiana in 1835, then to Missouri in 1856 settling in Deer Creek Township where he lived till now. Under the sod of this Township his mortal remains will rest till awakened by the triumph of God to put on immortality and soar away with the angels and live with God forever. He was a member of the Baptist Church for 42 years, living in strict accordance with his faith; kind and tolerant to all Christians, yet firm and unyielding in his church views. He had also been a Mason since 1872, being the first Mason ever made in the Crescent Hill Lodge, and was a member of the said Lodge at his death. Father leaves us a record of which we are not ashamed, a record we all should imitate. His loss to us is irreparable, his place in our family can never be filled. We feel the loss keenly and deeply, but the will of God must be done. He has crossed over the river; he cannot come to us, but let's strive to go to him.We avail ourselves of the opportunity to express our gratitude to our neighbors and many friends, who aided and comforted him during his long suffering and assisted us in conveying him to his last resting place. Language cannot express our good feelings to everyone but our grateful hearts beat withgratitude strong and pure. Again, friends and neighbors, we thank you ten thousand times for your kind treatment to us in our distress and to our dear Father in his affliction.Signed: Mary Moudy, Henry Moudy and wife, Nelson Moudy and wife, Alfred Moudy, Austin Moudy, Charles Moudy, W. B. Ewing."

from Find A Grave:
     BIRTH     1795, Kentucky, USA
DEATH     1860 (aged 64–65), Breathitt County, Kentucky, USA
Nicholas B. 'Nick' Bowman was the son of Elijah Bowman and Elizabeth Gentry. Records indicate Nicholas was born in Lee County, Kentucky or Virginia around 1795-1799 depending upon the source.
Nicholas and Elizabeth (sometimes seen as Isabell) Moore, daughter of James and Ellender Hamilton Moore, married October 3, 1818 in Clay County, Kentucky. They became the parents of:
      Isabell/Elizabeth Bowman Spencer (1820-1876)
      Henry Clay Bowman (1822-1864)
      Ellender Bowman Lawson (1824-?)
      Lucinda Bowman Spencer (1826-1880)
      Emoline Bowman Lawson (1827-1921)
      John Wesley ‘Butler’ Bowman (1831-1899)
      Marium Bowman Chambers (1833-1920)
      Martha Bowman (1835-1853)
Deborah Jane ‘Deb’ Bowman Spencer (1838-1926)
      Rachel Bowman Combs (1841-1924)
      William Fletcher Bowman (1842-1863)
Nicholas last appears in the 1860 Census for Breathitt County, Kentucky. It is assumed he died shortly thereafter or at least before 1870. The death records for Breathitt County are not available for several years between 1860 and 1870. Some undocumented sources state that Nicholas and Isabel/Elizabeth are buried on the old farm about two mile up Lower Twin Creeks in Breathitt County.
Note: This is a guess. The middle initial ‘B’ may stand for ‘Boone’. Nicholas had a grandson named Nicholas Boone ‘Bud’ Spencer who was the son of daughter, Deborah Jane Bowman Spencer. Bud was most likely named for his grandfather.

Isabel (sometimes seen as Elizabeth) ‘Lizzie’ Moore was the daughter of James and Ellender Hamilton Moore. There is some confusion as to whether Lizzie’s name is ‘Isabel’ or ‘Elizabeth’. It appears interchangeably in the various records. Her name is listed as ‘Lizzie’ on daughter Rachel’s death certificate. Those familiar with her must have called her that. Records indicate Lizzie was born in Kentucky around 1898 or 1899. There are some sources that state that Lizzie was born May 2, 1800. That source may not be a public source. The actual birth date is currently undocumented. Some sources state that Lizzie was born in Mill Creek, Breathitt County, Kentucky. That information is not documented or verified. Lizzie was born in Lee County, Kentucky according to daughter, Rachel Bowman Combs’, death certificate. Both Breathitt and Lee Counties may be correct in that county lines changed several times over the years.

Deborah Jane ‘Deb’ Bowman Spencer (1838-1926)
      Rachel Bowman Combs (1841-1924)
      William Fletcher Bowman (1842-1863)
Some undocumented sources state that Isabel/Elizabeth and Nicholas are buried on the old farm about two mile up Lower Twin Creeks in Breathitt County. Daughter Martha, died in that area in 1853 according to Kentucky death records so that may be a valid assumption. Lizzie’s actual death date is also currently undocumented. Some sources list it as 1891. Lizzie last appears in the 1880 Census for Breathitt County, Kentucky.
