"Arnout III (1080-after 1136), Count of Aarschot, son of Arnout II, Count of Aarschot, and his wife whose name remains unknown. Arnout is sometimes confused with his father, especially in regard to the blood shedding at Aachen in 1115.
"Arnout supported the founding of the Averbode Abbey in 1134, part of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels, that was made possible by donations by Arnold II, Count of Looz, the Abbey of Sint-Truiden, the lords of Aarschot and Diest, and Godfrey III, Count of Louvain. In at least two documents, Arnout was not referred to as a count.
"Arnout married Beatrix of Looz, daughter of Arnold I, Count of Looz and sister of his fellow benefactor of the Averbode Abbey. Arnout and Beatrix had four children:
** Arnout IV, Count of Aarschot
** Godfried II (d. after 1152)
** John (d. after 1125), a monk at the Afflighem Abbey. It is possible that he is the renown John whose treatise on de Arte Musica was an early musical analysis that covered the ecclesiastical use of monody.
** Reinier (d. 1175), Archdeacon of Liège.

"Upon his death, Arnout was succeeded as Count of Aarschot by his son and namesake.

; Per Med Lands:
"GODFRIED van Renen (-after 18 Oct 1145). "Godfried van Renen" is named in charters at Utrecht dated 1105, 1118, 1125 (three), 1129, 1139, 1145 and 1169[60]. "…Godefridus de Rinen et filius eius Hugo…" witnessed a charter dated 18 Oct 1145 under which Heinrich III King of Germany confirmed the rights of the church of Utrecht in the counties of Oostergau and Westergau[61]. Coldeweij speculates that Godfried van Renen may have been the same person as Godfried van Aarschot, pointing out that "the Renen family owned property in Perk, Anderlecht and Dilbeek near Brussels. This was the area where the oldest lands of the counts of Leuven lay"[62]. In this scenario, Godfried van Aarschot would not have been the ancestor of the van Lier family (this question is discussed more fully in the document BRABANT, LOUVAIN).
"m [firstly] SOPHIA van Bemmel, daughter of DIRK van Bemmel & his wife ---. Coldewuij suggests that "Godfried van Renen-Aarschot" (identified as the future husband of Emmissa de Valenciennes) married Sophia van Bemmel as his first wife, by whom he fathered the six children shown below[63].
     "[m secondly ---.]

Sophia van Bemmel1

Sophia van Bemmel married Godfried van Aarschot-Rhenen, son of Arnold I van Aarschot Graaf van Aarschot and NN (?) de Louvain,
;
His 1st (?) wife.2,1
      ; Per Med Lands:
"Godfried & his [first] wife had six children"
