; Hero of the hundred years war between France and England. He was the illegitimate son of the Duke of Orleans. After his father's murder he was taken into the household of Valentine Visconti, his father's wife, and brought up with the legitimate children.

He became a commander of Charles VII's troops and in 1427 defeated the English at Montargis. In 1428 he was involved with Jeanne d'Arc with the conquest of Orleans. In the 1430's and 1440's he was further involved with the reconquest of France and, in 1436, took Paris where he made a grand entry. In 1449 he was sent to Normandy which was restored a year later to the French crown. In 1451 he recovered Fronsac and other Gascon fortresses while on 29 June 1451 he conquered Bordeaux.2
