"Patris mei et nepos meus Guigo et sorores eius Guigona et Marquissa et uxor fratris mei Adaladix comitissa" consented to the charter dated Dec 1203 under which "R…Lugdunensis ecclesiæ archiepiscopus" donated property to Cluny, as instructed by "Guidonis fratris mei comitis Forensis" who had assigned "comitatum Forensem in manu mea nomine tutelæ liberorum ipsius, nepotum meorum", to found an anniversary for his brother[149]. His parentage is confirmed by the charter dated Mar [1241/42] under which “Guillermus de Bafes miles” recorded his agreement with “Guiodum de Foreis” which names “comes Guido de Foreis, defunctus, avus meus…ex parte prime uxoris sue legittime, que fuit mater matris mee” and adds that Guy [III] Comte de Forez was also father of “comes Guido de Nevers, pater dicti Guidi” by his second wife married during the lifetime of his first wife[150]. Comte de Forez. "Raynaudus…primæ Lugdunensis ecclesiæ minister" founded an anniversary for "fratris nostri Guigonis comitis Foresii…qui sepultus fuit apud Accon in ecclesia Hospitalis", with the consent of "Guigonis nepotis nostri", by charter dated 1215 which names "Guigo comes pater noster"[151]. “Rainaudus et Hulricus, fratres, filii quondam vicecomitis Matisconensis” granted property “quicquid habebant ultra Ligerim…Croset” to “Guigoni comiti Forisiensi nepoti nostro” by charter dated Oct 1220[152]. "Comes Forensis Guigo" donated property to the abbey of Bénissons Dieu, for the soul of "Alasiæ matris meæ bonæ memoriæ", by charter dated 21 Aug 1222[153]. "Guigo comes Forensis" founded the church of Notre-Dame de l’Espérance de Montbrison by charter dated 1223[154]. He succeeded as Comte de Nevers in 1226, by right of his wife. William of Tyre (Continuator) names "le conte de Fores qui estoit cuens de Nevers de par sa feme" among those who took part in the crusade from France which landed at Acre in 1239[155]. He died while returning from Crusade with Thibaut King of Navarre, Comte de Champagne[156]. The testament of "comes Nivernensis et Forensis" is dated 1239, before leaving on crusade, and names "Guigonem filium meum primogenitum…Raynaldum alium meum" (adding that he wished the latter to enter the church)[157].
"Betrothed (Betrothed [1205/06], [terminated?]) to PHILIPPA [Mathilde] de Dampierre, daughter of GUY [II] Seigneur de Dampierre-sur-Aube et de Bourbon & his wife Mathilde Dame de Bourbon (-1223). Philippe II King of France confirmed the conditions of the proposed marriages between "Guigue fils du comte de Forez, et une fille de Guy de Dampierre" and "Archambaud, fils de Guy de Dampierre, et Guigone, fille dudit comte de Forez" by charter dated [10 Apr 1205/1 Apr 1206][158]. The primary source which confirms her name has not yet been identified. This betrothal was presumably terminated before the series of disputes which broke out between the Forez and Dampierre/Bourbon families in 1210, which led to Guy’s betrothal to Ermengarde d’Auvergne, but later revived.
"Betrothed (1210, [terminated?]) to ERMENGARDE d'Auvergne, daughter of GUY [II] Comte d'Auvergne & his wife Petronille de Chambon (-16 Jan 1225). An undated charter records that "Reginaldus…primæ Lugdunensis ecclesiæ minister…et pater meus comes Forensis et Guido comes Arverniæ" agreed the marriages, firstly of "G. fratris mei" and "filias G. comitis Arverniæ", and secondly of "filius…dicti comitis Arverniæ" and "filiam fratris mei G. quondam comitis Forensis"[159]. La Mure describes the background to this betrothal: Philippe II King of France had dispossessed Guy [II] of his county in 1210 in reprisal for his persecution of his brother Robert Bishop of Clermont, Guy de Dampierre Seigneur de Bourbon supported the king in this move, while the county of Forez supported the comte d’Auvergne[160]. However, in a later passage he records that the betrothal of the daughter of Guy de Forez and Guillaume [X] d’Auvergne was terminated "par le changement des affaires qui survint ès Maisons d’Auvergne et de Forez"[161]. La Mure does not state what happened to Ermengarde’s betrothal to Guy [IV] Comte de Forez at the time, but it appears likely that it was terminated too, and presumably revived at some later date after the death of Guy’s first wife.
"m firstly ([1216]) PHILIPPA [Mathilde] de Dampierre, daughter of GUY [II] Seigneur de Dampierre-sur-Aube et de Bourbon & his wife Mathilde Dame de Bourbon (-1223). Philippe II King of France confirmed the conditions of the proposed marriages between "Guigue fils du comte de Forez, et une fille de Guy de Dampierre" and "Archambaud, fils de Guy de Dampierre, et Guigone, fille dudit comte de Forez" by charter dated [10 Apr 1205/1 Apr 1206][162]. The primary source which confirms her name has not yet been identified. La Mure dates this marriage to "environ 1216"[163]. As noted above, the political difficulties involving the Forez, Bourbon-Dampierre, and Auvergne families must have resulted in the earlier betrothal to Philippa [Mathilde] being terminated but later revived. The primary source which confirms the actual marriage has not yet been identified. One possibility is that two different daughters of Guy [II] Seigneur de Dampierre were involved, which would explain the different names used in secondary sources.
"m secondly (Betrothed 1210 [terminated?], [1223/24]) ERMENGARDE d'Auvergne, daughter of GUY [II] Comte d'Auvergne & his wife Petronille de Chambon (-16 Jan 1225). An undated charter records that "Reginaldus…primæ Lugdunensis ecclesiæ minister…et pater meus comes Forensis et Guido comes Arverniæ" agreed the marriages, firstly of "G. fratris mei" and "filias G. comitis Arverniæ", and secondly of "filius…dicti comitis Arverniæ" and "filiam fratris mei G. quondam comitis Forensis"[164]. La Mure describes the background to this betrothal: Philippe II King of France had dispossessed Guy [II] of his county in 1210 in reprisal for his persecution of his brother Robert Bishop of Clermont, Guy de Dampierre Seigneur de Bourbon supported the king in this move, while the county of Forez supported the comte d’Auvergne[165]. However, in a later passage he records that the betrothal of the daughter of Guy de Forez and Guillaume [X] d’Auvergne was terminated "par le changement des affaires qui survint ès Maisons d’Auvergne et de Forez"[166]. La Mure does not state what happened to Ermengarde’s betrothal to Guy [IV] Comte de Forez at the time, but it appears likely that it was terminated too, and presumably revived at some later date. "Guido comes Nivernensis et Forensis" donated property to the abbey of Bénissons Dieu, for the soul of "bonæ recordationis Ermengardis quondam uxoris meæ comitissæ Forensis", by charter dated [2/7] Jan 1226[167]. The primary source which confirms her parentage has not yet been identified. The necrology of Saint-Thomas-en-Forez records the death "XVII Kal Feb" of "Ememgertis comitisse"[168].
"m thirdly (Jul 1226) as her second husband, MATHILDE de Courtenay, Ctss de Nevers, d'Auxerre et de Tonnerre, widow of HERVE [IV] Seigneur de Donzy, daughter of PIERRE I Emperor of Constantinople Seigneur de Courtenay & his first wife Agnes Ctss de Nevers, d'Auxerre et de Tonnerre ([1188]-29 Jul 1257, bur Abbaye de Réconfort, near Monceaux-le-Comte). The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Mathildem" as only daughter of "comitis Petris" & his first wife, specifying that she married firstly "Herveio Gaufridi filio de Giam et de Dunzeio" and secondly "comiti Gugoni Forensi"[169]. "Mathildis comitissa Nivernensis" donated property to the abbey of Corbigny by charter dated May 1226 for the soul of "H quondam bone memorie domini et mariti nostri comitis Nivernensis"[170]. "Guido Nivernensis comes et Mathildis comitissa uxor eiusdem comitis" took under their protection a family belonging to Saint-Cyr by charter dated Jan 1229[171]. "G. comes et M. comitissa Nivernensis et Forensis" donated property to the abbey of Bénissons Dieu, for the soul of "bonæ memoriæ quondam comitis Nivernensis", by charter dated Jan 1236[172]. The necrology of Sens cathedral records the death "IV Kal Aug" of "Matildis comitissa Nivernensis"[173]."

"HENDRIK van Limburg, son of WALRAM [II] Graaf van Limburg & his wife Jutta von Wassenberg (-Rome Aug 1167, bur Rolduc [Rode] abbey). Arnold Archbishop of Köln confirmed the possessions of the abbey of Rolduc [Rode] by charter dated 20 Oct 1140, which includes donations by "Walramus de Limburg…et filius eius dominus Henricus"[87]. HENDRIK II Duke of Limburg 1140. The Oude Kronik van Brabant records that "Henricus comes Lymburgensis" attempted to deprive "Godefridi junioris" of his duchy, which "Henricus avus suus et Walramus pater suus" held previously, in the second year of his reign[88]. Comte d’Arlon. "Heinricus comes de Arlo" signed a charter of Konrad III King of Germany dated 5 Jan 1146 (O.S.)[89]. Henri Bishop of Liège confirmed the donations by "domina Jutta, nobilissima matrona uxor ducis Walrami de Lemburg" to Rolduc [Rode] abbey, with the consent of "filiis suis Domino Henrico et Gerardo" by charter dated 1151[90]. "Heinricus dux de Limburch et Gerardus frater eius" subscribed a charter dated 4 Aug 1166[91]. The Petite Chronique d´Aix-la-Chapelle records that Duke Hendrik died of plague in Rome and was buried at Rolduc [Rode] abbey[92].
"m firstly (1136) MATHILDE von Saffenberg, daughter of ADOLF Graf von Saffenberg & his wife Margareta von Schwarzenberg (-2 Jan [1145/46]). The Annales Rodenses record the marriage in 1136 of “Heinricus Walrami ducis filius” and “Mathilda...comitis Adolphi filia”[93]. Her parentage and marriage are confirmed by a charter dated 1147 under which her husband confirmed the possessions of the abbey of Rolduc, among which his donation "in obitu…coniugis suæ dominæ Mathildis" which refers to donations by "socer eius", which are in turn recited earlier in the same document as donations of Adolf Graf von Saffenberg[94]. This is supported by the charter dated 1171 under which her son "Henricus filius domini Henrici filii ducis Walerami de Lymburg" donated property, inherited by him and "sorore nostra domina Margareta ducissa de Lovanio…atque domino Godefrido marito eius duce de Lovanio", to Rolduc [Rode] abbey and names "domino Herimanno, avunculo nostro, comite de Saphinberg"[95]. Heiress of Rolduc [Rode]. The Annales Rodenses record that “Mathildis...uxor Heinrici...Jutte filii et junioris Heinrici mater” died six years before her mother-in-law, noting in a later passage that “Mathildis” died “IV Non Jan” which appears from the context to refer to the same person[96].
"m secondly ([1150], divorced before 1152) as her second husband, LAURETTA de Flandre, widow of IWAN Graaf van Aalst, daughter of THIERRY Count of Flanders [Lorraine] & his first wife Suanhilde --- ([1120]-1175). The Cartulaire de Saint-Bertin records that Count Thierry "ex priori uxore unicam tantum filiam habuit quam Ivanus de Alosto postea sortitus est in conjugium" but does not give her name[97]. The Flandria Generosa names "Laurentiam" as the only daughter of "comitissa etiam Suanildis", specifying that her marriage with "dux de Lemburg" was terminated on grounds of consanguinity, that she subsequently married "Iwanus de Alst", and after the latter's death "Rodulfo comiti Peronensi" and "comiti de Namur", although this switches her first and second husbands[98]. The correct order of her first and second marriages is confirmed by the charter dated 22 Sep 1139 under which "Iwanus de Gand…cum uxoris meæ Lauretæ filiæ Theoderici comitis" donated property to "Fratrum Trunciniensis ecclesiæ" near Gand[99]. She married thirdly (1152) as his third wife, Raoul I "le Vaillant" Comte de Vermandois, and fourthly ([1152/59], divorced 1163) Henri "l’Aveugle" Comte de Namur et de Luxembourg (-Aug 1196). She left her fourth husband before [1163] and refused to return to him despite being excommunicated by the bishop of Cambrai. She became a nun at Voorst."

"HENRI de Namur (1111-14 Aug 1196, bur Abbaye de Floreffe). The Chronicon Hanoniense names "Henricum…et Albertum qui iuvenis decessit" as the two sons of "Godefridus comes Namurcensi" & his second wife[119]. "Godefridus comes Namurcensis et Ermensendis comitissa" founded the abbey of Floreffe, with the consent of "Adelberto, Henrico, Clementia, Beatrice, Adelaide", by charter dated 27 Nov 1121[120]. "Godefridus comes Namucensis et Ermensindis comitissa" donated property to the abbey of Floreffe with the consent of "filiis suis Alberto et Heinrico…" by charter dated 7 Jan 1125[121]. "Ducem Godefridum seniorem eiusque filium…Godefridum iuniorem" donated property "in parochia Braniensi…Dudinsart" to Gembloux by charter dated 1131, witnessed by "Godefridus comes Namucensis eiusque filius Henricus, Henricus minor filius ipsius ducis, Wilhelmus advocatus de Namuco eiusque frater Anselmus…"[122]. He succeeded his first cousin (on his mother's side) in 1136 as HENRI Comte de Luxembourg. He succeeded his father in 1139 as HENRI I "l'Aveugle" Comte de Namur. He marched against Adalberon Archbishop of Trier in 1141, was excommunicated and lost Luxembourg territory when the archbishop counter-attacked, although peace was finally signed in Speyer in 1146[123]. He also challenged the authority of the Bishop of Liège, attacking the château de Bouillon which the bishop claimed from the counts of Bar, but was defeated in 1151 at Andenne by the forces of Bishop Henri de Leyon[124]. He named his brother-in-law Baudouin IV Comte de Hainaut as his heir in Namur and Luxembourg, the latter's son Baudouin V assuming the position of designated successor after his father's death[125]. Comte Henri lost his sight in 1182[126]. After the unexpected birth of his daughter in 1186, Comte Henri revoked his assurance to Baudouin V Comte de Hainaut concerning the succession and betrothed the infant to Henri II Comte de Champagne. In 1188, Comte Henri was obliged to reinstate Baudouin as his heir after a verdict in the latter's favour from Heinrich VI King of Germany. Comte Baudouin attacked Namur, captured Comte Henri and obtained a confirmation of his position from Emperor Friedrich I who also secretly created him Marquis de Namur. Under a compromise reached in 1190, Baudouin received Namur immediately, with the expectation of La Roche and Durbuy after the death of Henri who received the revenues of these two counties for life; the fate of Luxembourg was not mentioned. The creation of the Marquisate of Namur was announced at Worms in 1190, at which time Comte Henri retired to Luxembourg where he continued to rule as count[127]. He made a last attempt to recover Namur in 1194 but was defeated at Noville-sur-Mehaigne[128]. The necrology of Floreffe records the death "III Non Feb" of "Henrici comitis fundator ecclesie Sennensis"[129].
"m firstly ([1152/59], divorced 1163) as her fourth husband, LAURETTA de Flandre, widow firstly of IWAN Graaf van Aalst, secondly of HENDRIK II Duke of Limburg, and thirdly of RAOUL I "le Vaillant" Comte de Vermandois, daughter of THIERRY Count of Flanders & his first wife Swanhilde --- ([1120]-Abbaye de Voorst, near Brussels 1170). The Cartulaire de Saint-Bertin records that Count Thierry "ex priori uxore unicam tantum filiam habuit quam Ivanus de Alosto postea sortitus est in conjugium" but does not give her name[130]. The Flandria Generosa names "Laurentiam" as the only daughter of "comitissa etiam Suanildis", specifying that her marriage with "dux de Lemburg" was terminated on grounds of consanguinity, that she subsequently married "Iwanus de Alst", and after the latter's death "Rodulfo comiti Peronensi" and "comiti de Namur", although this switches her first and second husbands[131]. She left her fourth husband before [1163] and refused to return to him despite being excommunicated by the bishop of Cambrai. She became a nun at Voorst.
"m secondly (1168) AGNES van Gelre, daughter of HENDRIK Graaf van Gelre & his wife Agnes von Arnstein (-24 Jan ----, bur Echternach). The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines in 1193 records the marriage of "Henrici comitis ceci" and "Agnate sorore comitis de Gelre"[132]. In a later passage, the same source names "Agneta…comitissa de Luscelenborch" as sister of "soror comitis de Gelderland", who was the mother of "domnus Engelbertus filius comitis Engelberti de Monte Veteri frater comitis Adolfi", specifying that she was mother of "Ermensindis relicta comitis Barri uxor Waleranni"[133]. The Chronicon Hanoniense names "Agnetam filiam Henrici…comitis de Ghelre" as wife of "Henricus comes Namurci et Luscelenborch"[134]. She left her husband, entered a convent and refused to return to him despite his appeal to Pope Alexander III[135]. A reconciliation was negotiated in 1185 by the Archbishop of Köln, Philippe Count of Flanders and Godefroi Duke of Brabant, anxious to ensure that Namur and Luxembourg was not inherited by Baudouin V Comte de Hainaut (the nominated successor of Comte Henri)[136]. The necrology of Floreffe records the death "IX Kal Feb" of "Agnetis comitisse de Gelra"[137]."

; Per Genealogics: "Raoul II, Count of Vermandois, was born in 1145, the son of Raoul I, Count of Vermandois, and Petronella/Alix de Poitou. About 1160 Raoul married Margarethe of Flanders, daughter of Thierry d'Alsace, Count of Flanders, and Sibylla d'Anjou. Raoul was a leper, and he was unable to rule in Vermandois from 1163 when his brother-in-law Philippe d'Alsace, Count of Flanders, took over. However in 1167 he occurs in a charter still as titular count of Vermandois though the transaction had to be approved by Philippe to whom the king had given power over Vermandois. Raoul II died on 17 June but the year is not certain. 1167 is the earliest possible year, however he must have died before April 1169 when his widow married Baudouin V-VIII, Count of Hainault and Flanders."4
