Some years after his marriagehe moved to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. There, in partnership with hisbrother-in-law, he started a foundry and machine shop, becoming an expertmechanic. Having lost his business for a number of years, he had chargeof the shops as manager. William Askwith was married in 1835 inLondonderry, Chester county, Pennsylvania, to Annie Delaney Williams.His wife was a daughter of Abner and Mary (Dickinson-Passmore) Williams,and was born September 19, 1813, in Chester county, Pennsylvania. AbnerWilliams was a son of William Williams, who served in the RevolutionaryWar, and was mustered out as a lieutenant-colonel of the ThirdPennsylvania Line. Mrs. Askwith's great-grandfather, on her mother'sside, was Joseph Dickinson, who was known as The 'Fighting Quaker.'William Askwith and wife were the parents of eight children: EstherPassmore, who died in 1855; Mary, who died in infancy; Susan Ann, whobecame the wife of John B. Sheeler; William Sylvester, who married AnnaE. King; John Delaney, who first married Alice Derry and after her deathDella _____; Charles Albert, who first married Ellen Miller and after herdeath Ria Wallace; Abner, who married Coral Flemming; Annie Delaney, whobecame the wife of Thomas Leytham. In the year 1868 William Askwith came to Shelby county and invested hissavings in a farm of forty acres near Lelland's Grove, which he tilledfor a number of years. He sold his farm in the early eighties andretired from active persuits and made his home with his children in hisdeclining years. He died in Portsmouth in the year 1885 and his widowdied in 1894.¹'
