; GRUFFYDD MAELOR (II) AP MADOG Northern Powys, 1236-69. Upon the death of MADOG AP GRUFFYDD the lands of Northern Powys were again sub-divided, leading as ever to disharmony and inter-filial rivalry. Gruffydd remained the senior prince amongst the brothers, though soon lost some lands when one brother, Maredudd, murdered another, Gruffydd Iâl, and LLYWELYN THE GREAT forfeited Maredudd's lands. Like his predecessors, Gruffydd was torn between his loyalties to Gwynedd and to England. After Llywelyn's death in 1240, Gruffydd sided again with England, and this briefly worked in his favour, though DAFYDD AP LLYWELYN later sought vengeance against him. However, it was not until the rise of LLYWELYN THE LAST that Gruffydd found his loyalties truly tested. In 1256 Llywelyn routed Gruffydd and drove him briefly out of his kingdom but he was soon restored, and thereafter remained loyal to Llywelyn, fighting with him throughout the ensuing struggle.
Gruffydd died in 1269. His lands were again partitioned between his sons, and this time there was no strong one amongst them to act as overlord. Powys effectively came under the control of Llywelyn, who approved the partition. The senior brother, who received the heartland of Iâl was Gruffydd Fychan (the Younger). He died in 1289, but his great-grandson, also called Gruffydd Fychan, was the father of OWAIN GLYN DWR.

According to Robert de Torigny[1396], he was the brother of Thorold and father of Ansketil d’Harcourt. ; Per Genealogics:
"Turchetil was born before 960, the younger son of Torf, baron de Tourville, and Ertemberge de Briquebec-Bertrand. With his wife Anceline de Montfort-sur-Risle, daughter of Hugues II de Montfort-sur-Risle, he had at least three children of whom Anchetil and Lesceline would have progeny, Lesceline with her husband Guillaume I, comte d'Hiémois, comte d'Eu.
"Turchetil appears in several charters concerning the abbeys of Fecamp and Bernay, about 1002 he witnessed a donation to the abbey of Fecamp by Richard II 'the Good', duke of Normandy. A book _History of the Family of Harcourt,_ referenced by the Genealogical Society of Utah in 1985, records that 'Turchetil (de Harcourt) III Baron de Tourville, who was appointed by Robert 'the Magnificent' VI Duke of Normandy, previous to his departure for the Holy Land in A.D. 1036, joint governor with his elder brother Thorold Sire de Pont Audemer, to his son William who eventually became King of England, but was soon afterwards treacherously murdered.' Robert would have been Robert 'the Devil', son of Richard II, who succeeded his elder brother Richard III as duke of Normandy in 1028.
"Turchetil was still the young William's guardian when he was assassinated by William's enemies between 1035 and 1040, possibly by hirelings of Ralph de Gacé, second son of Robert of Normandy, comte d'Evreux, archbishop of Rouen. Ralph also instigated the murder of William's chief guardian Gilbert, comte de Brionne, comte d'Eu, in 1040, and took his place as guardian.
"Turchetil is accepted as one of the earliest ancestors of the Harcourt family."5 GAV-27 EDV-27. Turchetil (?) Seigneur de Turqueville, de Tourville, de Turqueray was also known as Turketil de Turqueville seigneur de Turqueville.9

Rollo Thurstan, "Brico" - "Thurstan Hrolf" Rollo "Bigot" is not mentioned in the early sources, and any connection to Hrollaug Ragnvaldsson seems to have been created later.
From The Conqueror and his companions, Volume 2 By James Robinson Planché (paraphrased):
"Rongwald (Ragnvald) had several children by a favorite slave whom he had married "in more Danico", and one of these was Hrolf Turstain, who followed his Uncle Rollo into Normandy and secured the hand there of Gerlotte de Blois, daughter of Count Thibaut de Blois et Chartres. Hrolf was "the foundation of this branch of the great Norse family in Normandy, and the stock from which descended the Lords of Briquebec, of Bec-Crispin, of Montfort-sur-Risle, and others who figure as companions of the Conqueror."
"The third son of Hrolf Turstain and Gerlotte was Ansfrid the Dane, the first vicomte of the Hiemois (aka Exmes). His son Ansfrid II (called le Goz) was father of Thurstan (Turstin) le Goz, a trusted aide to Duke Robert of Normandy who accompanied him to the Holy Land and was entrusted to bring back to the Abbey of Cerisi the relics the Duke had obtained from the Patriarch of Jerusalem."
